History
Three Dog Winery started in Clear Lake, Iowa in 1992 and was known as Orchard Heights Winery. Mike Callanan had an uncle that had some concord grapes vines. Leo Stattelman gave us a recipe for concord grape wine that was quite simple and did not require testing for sugar content, PH or acid.
Leo also made his own mead, I remember his label very well.

Mike and I tried making cherry and cranberry, but concord grape was our favorite. One experience that will not be forgotten was when we did not stop the fermentation, we thought that we did, before we bottled. I remember hearing the dogs barking one night and found out the next morning that they heard the corks hitting the wall on the opposite side of the room. It was a sticky mess. After that we always let the bottles sit upright for a while before we put them in the rack.
In 2000 Carol and I got new jobs in the Des Moines area and moved to Adel. There I found two new friends that had some grapes and were interested in making wine. Lori Tabert and Curt Rasmussen.
